I’m in a Balmain terrace — will my mattress fit up the stairs?

Standard queen and king mattresses (152 × 203 cm and 183 × 203 cm respectively) often cannot turn the 90-degree landing on original Victorian terrace staircases that are 80–90 cm wide. Memory foam and pocket spring mattresses are flexible enough to bend; traditional inner-spring and pillow-top mattresses are not. Can a 4-tonne truck park on my Newtown street?

Most residential side streets off King Street and Enmore Road can take a 4-tonne pantech, but the larger 6-tonne and 8-tonne trucks struggle with overhead branches and tight intersections. The WestConnex M4-M5 link reshaped surface access in parts of St Peters, Haberfield and Ashfield. Several streets that were through-roads pre-2022 are now cul-de-sacs or have temporary truck-access restrictions. We check the current Transport for NSW access map on quote — usually it adds 15–30 minutes of routing rather than blocking the move. If you live near the surface works, mention WestConnex in your booking enquiry and we’ll account for it.

When is the busiest moving period in the Inner West?
